Dublin city January 2020, with the encroachment of the 100 windowed generic hotel monster on every block of land without a hotel on it already, Dublin was fast becoming a cultural wasteland and it was only inevitable the long running On The One Studios - a ‘mere’ space for creativity in Dublin’s city center, would soon be up for redevelopment. With the current deadline of October for the building’s demolition fast approaching, the collective members felt it a good time to put out some releases together to document the studio’s output, raise awareness of the ongoing issue of the destruction of artistic spaces in Dublin city and to raise some funds for some good causes along the way.

On the one is a compilation of tracks by present and past key holders of the studios and covers a wide range of electronic styles, a fine representation of the sounds that rumble out of the loft in Dublin 8.

Sweet filters over an outrageously funky bass hook are the order of the day for SDWTRX’s - ’Tonight’, t-woc keeps it chuggy and sludgy on ‘Persian Golf’, Contour melds skittery drum patterns with modular bass and lush evolving pads on ‘Outline of a Man’, Scintilla’s slick production is taken up another notch with a killer vocal on ‘Circuit Breaker’, ‘Loophole’ from Hothouse bossman Dave Kerr is a tempered journey of raw synth and big beats. Dj Mog-Y under his STS moniker trips out hard on the epic mid tempo groover ‘I got soul’. New Cicero shows his lyrical prowess over one of his own killer productions on the track ‘The Breakdown’ and Pineal Navigation closes out the comp with ‘Furo’, where subtle melancholy provides the perfect backdrop to a raw electro acid groove.

All proceeds from the sale of this release will go directly to the SCOOP Foundation which is raising funds to acquire PPE for those working on the frontline and those most at risk of Covid 19 in Ireland.
